The number of independent professionals, freelancers called, has grown at a good pace in the last years. According to a survey by the European Forum of Independent Professionals, one in four professionals in Europe working independently. and more than $ 1 billion was spent on hiring these professionals in 2013. This number even expected to grow to $ 5 billion over the next three to five years, according to Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA).

One of the biggest benefits of having a freelancer is the considerable increase in productivity, driven by two main factors: the hyper specialization and accountability. The first relates to hiring people skilled in certain areas. The second is the principle of transforming the relationship of employer-employee.

Imagine that a company hire a chief marketing officer to perform the main activities which is expected of his office. This work can be divided into distinct tasks, depending on the goals that the company wants to achieve, such as marketing management, email marketing, performance marketing, offline marketing, online marketing, public relations, among others.

Instead of hiring a person who will try to cover all these areas, why not hire four or five freelancers hyper specialists? Each of these professionals work a few hours a day and just concentrate on the task in which an expert and it will bring better results for the company.

According to the SIA, every freelancer is an expert in your field and they all have other clients that enable these professionals new ideas and best business practices. Because they are doing work in the same sector and for different customers, independent professionals can perfecting new ways to develop or complete a task quite regularly, and possibly bring new visions for the entrepreneur.

The manner in which the freelancer sees his work is also different from an employee hired by a company effectively. An employee is just another plus other professional that will help the company to offer services and products to the customer. On the other hand, the freelancer sees the company as its client, where should perform quality work and efficiency to conquer it.

The convenience of a steady job is replaced by a culture where everyone is really responsible for their work and, thus, the quality of work delivered is considerably higher.

The costs involved in maintaining an employee and a freelancer also encourages companies to invest in independent professionals. The same task intended for a freelancer to have a higher cost-benefit of an employee where wages and taxes must be paid regularly.

It seems, companies are investing more in independent professionals because they believe that their work, in many cases, are more productive. Such thinking can give a new look to the professional market in the near future, where people will be more independent in their professional activities and companies more satisfied with the work offered.
