The consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal (A & M) conducted research that shows the need to adopt security systems increasingly solid to protect customer data. The result showed that 60% of Brazilian organizations lack the necessary resources to protect and respond to possible cyber attacks. This situation is extremely different from the United States and Europe, for example, where for years there is a specific legislation to address the issue.

According to Dino Schwingel, CEO of information security company E-TRUST, which may explain this problem is the lack of regulation. “Last year we had the publication of the Civil Marco Internet, but this depends on complementary law that is still being discussed and has not been regulated. The personal data protection law is in public consultation until the end of the month of April and goes into the process in Congress. Only after the implementation of the law is that the country will have effective protection, clearly designating the responsibilities of individuals and companies, with the protection of personal data, which is the first step to have a regulation on the processing of data, “he says.

In the new law, one of the items that stands out is the implementation of a device that forces companies to leave their customers free from attacks, information leaks and other hazards. Schwingel points out that this measure is already used in 47 of the 50 US states. “Currently the company has no obligation to inform possible data leaks. So much so that there are many incidents in the country that does not come to the attention of the public. This paradigm shift will be very important because it will cause companies to have more attention to the control of Data employees and customers. Today, research shows that information security investment in Brazil is below the world average, “says the president.

Some organizations face information security just from a technical point of view, preferring to opt for solutions to problems, forgetting the security strategies. Schwingel also comments that firms choose specific options, failing to implement long-term resources that have greater complexity and provides more extensive guarantees on the security of this information. But there is one exception: the financial market has been investing some time in systems and data protection structures.

The challenge for companies is to make the area is more attractive for professionals. Shwingel believes that one reason for the lack of these activities is the lack of investment by companies. “There are few jobs open to the market. In the financial sector, investing, we see much more occupied positions than in other segments of companies. One must become the most attractive market, starting a working knowledge of the area from teaching medium, “he concludes.
